Shidoshi’s DJ career began with a zest for independent music fostered by joining up the Calgary’s notable campus and community radio station CJSW in 1994. Early mix tapes of house, garage, and hip hop fueled a passion for underground sounds and what better community to help discover new sounds than Canadian campus and community radio. While being a big fan and supporter of DJ culture since the mid 80’s, CJSW finally gave Shidoshi the chance to hone his skills both in music selections and DJ skill.

On radio, Shidoshi, along with mentor extraordinaire DJ Sideshow Sid, dig deep in the vaults for a myriad of selections from the past, present, and future of global dance culture on the groundbreaking program “The Musiquarium”. He loves to bring the listener into a wide spectrum of beats, from funk and jazz through modern broken beat, house, and breaks. Drawing on this experience, he has had several residencies around Calgary both in upscale lounges, and full dance floor banging Nightclubs.

More recently, Shidoshi has toured Asia and Australia DJing and had his residency at the cutting edge Mercury Lounge (502 17^th Ave SW). Teaming with Calgary’s legendary Al Testa on Friday, the night flowed through various hip swinging beats and pieces focusing on the funk and the low end. Saturdays spinning solo sprung a more uplifting boogie with more of a four on the floor shake and shimmy. Presently, Shidoshi has relocated to the beach city of Nha Trang, Vietnam and taken on the task of influencing Vietnam’s emerging underground dance culture. The resident DJ and manager at Guava Bar, he also does regular spots in both Hanoi and Saigon.

Previous residencies such as the Lucky Lounge (510 – 17th Ave SW), the swanky Mynt Ultralounge(516c 9th Ave SW), and the legendary missed locales of the Night Gallery Cabaret and the Embassy (RIP) have endeared Shidoshi to local beat seekers and he has had the opportunity to share the decks alongside the likes of Fort Knox Five, Freestylers, Nick Holder, Phil Asher, NuSpirit Helsinki, Llorca, Sixtoo, DJ Signify, P-Love and DJ Vadim to name a few. He also enjoys several guest spots around town with civic luminaries Jon Delerious, Smalltown DJs, Al Testa, DJ Rice, and longtime partners Marco Primo and Skot Dub.

While focusing almost exclusively on hometown gigs, Shidoshi has had the opportunity to play out at great venues as far away as New York, Guadalajara, Brisbane, Bangkok, Saigon, Toronto and Ottawa, and nearby jaunts to Banff, and Edmonton.
